Ringing in Basant Panchami with a Kooda Daan Abhiyan where 250 kgs of segregated waste was collected!
We organized a Kooda Dhan Abhiyan and a waste Segregation event on 10,14,15 and 16, February 2021. We approached 220 households with awareness and sensitization content.
The festival of Basant Panchami rings in the spring season. Every year the local residents of Haridwar celebrate this auspicious festival by flying kites.
Our team organized a waste segregation drive and a Kooda Dhan Abhiyan in Ward No. 20, a pilot implementation ward. We sensitized 880 people on source segregation and collected 250 kgs of waste across four days i.e. February 10,14,15 and 16, 2021.
On February 10th we visited 220 households along with waste collection staff during door to door collection to inform them of the different types of waste streams (Dry waste, Wet Waste, and Domestic Hazardous Waste), how to segregate them at the source and how they could store the dry waste for the Kooda Dhan Abhiyan event.
On February 15, 2021, We offered continuous public service announcements through an E-rickshaw that was decorated with banners depicting waste segregation guidelines. We collected 140 kgs of wet waste on this day!
Our team along with the E-rickshaw accompanied waste collection staff to collect dry waste in re-usable HDPE bags that we distributed earlier. In the spirit of Basant Panchami, We gifted the residents with a Kite that had a source segregation guide on it!
We handed over all the collected segregated dry waste to our partner informal workers who in turn sold it to scrap dealers. The workers appreciated the fact that they could get segregated dry waste thereby saving them the effort and hazard of handling mixed waste.
