Paving the way for sustainable events in Haridwar through a Public Event Guidelines Workshop
The Aviral Team conducted a public event guidelines workshop at Hotel Le Grand, Haridwar. The workshop was attended by sanitary inspectors from Haridwar Nagar Nigam and representatives of different hotels, ashrams, schools, and community-based organizations.
Given that management of waste at public events in the Ganga cities of Rishikesh and Haridwar is a concern, we prepared comprehensive guidelines on the management of waste and briefed the participants on them.
Through the workshop, we oriented the stakeholders on the different stages of waste management during events and to host events responsibly and bring behavioral change within their staff as well as their visitors.
A total of 30 people participated in the workshop and learned about categories of plastic and resource recovery. We displayed upcycled items made of Tetra Pak and plastic waste to give them a first-hand experience of the benefits of segregating waste.
We also displayed single-use disposables typically used at public events and their sustainable alternatives. Through this activity, the participants were made aware of the various eco-friendly options they can include in their events.
Our workshop promoted the idea of reducing plastic waste by segregating at the source. We exhibited an example of a ‘zero-waste wedding’ and provided information on sources such as cowsheds where wet waste can be easily managed.
