Making public events more sustainable through proper waste management guidelines
Aviral organizes a public event guideline workshop in partnership with Salvus Hotels on August 26, 2021, at the Narayana Palace to focus on the adoption of the best practices of waste reduction and recovery at public events.
The Ganga cities of Haridwar and Rishikesh are host to several public events such as religious gatherings, temple meals, cultural and yoga festivals among others. These public events, if managed properly can prove to be an effective catalyst to nudge behavioral change towards source segregation in participants. Aviral has prepared comprehensive guidelines in line with Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 on the management of municipal solid waste generated at events.
The presentation guideline focused on the planning phase of an event with an emphasis on waste management infrastructure, manpower and responsibilities, and behavioral change materials. The team showcased examples of such events by playing a video of some of the events it managed in Haridwar and Rishikesh
The workshop concluded with all the participants taking a pledge to segregate their waste at home and at public events at the pledge board. Thereafter the participants were given a cloth bag with recycled products as a token of appreciation.
